Question - are we're the third meanest city or just among a list of mean cities? *self edit. We are #3. Dang. We're nice out here in the suburbs!!! And Peter Frampton decided to move here - he's a really nice fellow. Sarah Jessica Parker grew up here. But then again Jerry Springer got his start here....I'd better shut up!

San Antonio???? OMG, no way! I've only been there once so far (only chance to get to go), but those folks are the NICEST I've ever met -- completely hospitable and generous, a definite attribute to a tourist city. I've been impressed with Texans, in general, since I moved here.

Edit -- oh, I see, it's related to treatment of homeless.

That's the word from the National Coalition for the Homeless, a national advocacy group, that has named the top 20 meanest U.S. cities based on how they treat the homeless who live within their city limits, as well as purported civil rights violations, reports The Associated Press. The list was created using data samplings from 179 communities in 48 states.

Little Rock received this dubious distinction due to its efforts to close 27 transient camps for homeless people around the city. Although the plan was tabled after advocates for the homeless objected, the coalition is concerned that the city could still move forward with the plan. This is the third year the report has been issued, and the first time Little Rock made the list at all. Previously, Las Vegas held the No. 1 spot."

I agree duckie...I've been to San Antonio several times and most everyone seemed really nice.

Texas one of the top four meanest states? Wow, that's hard to believe!! Golly gee whiz...come on down for some bar-b-que and a rootin' tootin' good ol' time with your Texan pals.


I'm very surprised Philadelphia isn't on the list though. In my experience, that city is MEAN!!

I've been to Atlanta enough times to argue they might well deserve the #1 spot. They have by far the rudest drivers I have ever encountered, it is a city full of snobs. JUst go ahead and attend a concert at Chastain Park some day if you have any doubts.

Having vacationed in ATL this past July ... let me say that many people that I met seemed pretty nice. I really didn't have many problems. Interstate drivers ... well, now that's a much DIFFERENT story ...

You better drive 85 MPH to keep up with the flow of traffic, especially along I-285 ... and believe me, with rush hour traffic, nothing is more fun than crawling at 3 MPH on the interstate 6 and 8 lanes each side, and it's a bumper to bumper parking lot ...

point taken. Ok then...there are more snobs in Atlanta then anywhere else, and the majority of them are mean.

It's not us who are snobs...most Georgians are very warm and friendly. Natives born in metro Atlanta such as myself don't venture on the roads often, and when we do...we use backroads or drive at less than peak traffic times, thus avoiding the major traffic snarls.

Most of the mean-spirited snobs I run across on the roadways of metro Atlanta are those who moved here from PA, NY, OH, IL, MI, MA, CA, etc; they make the rest of us look bad.....you can tell from their "non-southern" accent they aren't from around here
