to cool down quite nicely. This should give the trough next week something to work with as far as cold air is concerned.

That’s b/c the PV is up there. Notice the VERY low 1000-500mb thicknesses up there associated with it. There is an appendage to the PV which extends SE toward Hudson bay and SOME of that air is bleeding southward as a result.
