Severe weather has exploded with the transition from winter which is finally letting go its grip to the gradual transition to spring/summer and unfortunately - a crescendo was reached on May 4th when 87 tornadoes occurred in what will likely go down as one of the largest outbreaks in U.S. history.
April 30th - 345 reports: 29 tornadoes, 16 wind, 300 hail
May 1st - 343 reports: 12 tornadoes, 135 wind, 196 hail
May 2nd - 462 reports: 5 tornadoes, 193 wind , 264 hail
May 3rd - 225 reports: 16 tornadoes, 29 wind, 180 hail
May 4th - 506 reports: 87 tornadoes, 111 wind, 308 hail
May 5th - 307 reports: 22 tornadoes, 93 wind, 192 hail
As of 10:45 pm EDT -
May 6th - 338 reports, 31 tornadoes, 95 wind, 212 hail
Totals: 2526 reports, 202 tornadoes, 672 wind, 1652 hail
May so far - 2181 reports, 173 tornadoes, 656 wind, 1352 hail
