Worker's body found in trench

MELISSA, Texas - Rescue teams in Melissa found the body of a construction worker Thursday morning after the man was trapped in a trench collapse Wednesday.
Officials said Jose Cruz Morales, 47, was buried under a pile of stone as he worked on a water pipeline for a residential subdivision.
Allen spokeswoman Teresa Warren said a boulder at the edge of the trench on FM545 near County Road 414 fell into the channel, initiating the collapse about 3 p.m.
Searchers spotted Morales' body pinned behind a massive boulder about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, but rapidly rising water in the trench forced the rescue team to withdraw.
A backhoe was called in to remove water from the 15 foot deep trench. Workers hoped to recover Morales' body later Thursday morning.
The Allen Fire Department and personnel from Coppell assisted with recovery efforts in Melissa, a fast-growing Collin County town north of McKinney.
Dallas Morning News staff writer Tiara M. Ellis and WFAA-TV reporter Cynthia Vega in Melissa contributed to this report.
