My FAVORITE kind of weather, COLD and DRY!

#1 Postby azsnowman » Fri Dec 17, 2004 7:26 am

OH GOODY......my FAVORITE kind of weather is here, "Cold and DRY!" NOT.....there is nothing WORSE than clear blue skies and COLD  No moisture in sight but bitterly COLD temps are on tap for next week, take note of the last sentence:

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/flag

.DISCUSSION...STRONG SFC HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL FIGHT THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WEST OF AZ THROUGH THE WEEKEND AS EASTERLY WINDS KEEP THE BNDY LAYER COOL. 00Z SOUNDING REVEALS THAT A SUBSIDENCE INVERSION WAS ALREADY FORMING...AND MODEL SOUNDINGS INDICATE IT WILL STRENGTHEN...SO THERE MAY BE A PERIOD EARLY THIS MORNING WHERE THE AREAS AROUND THE PEAKS COULD SEE SOME LOCALLY STRONG WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH. OVERALL...THE WINDS WILL SLOWLY DECREASE THROUGH TODAY AND SATURDAY...BECOMING LIGHT AND VARIABLE BY SUNDAY. THE COLD AND MOIST AIR THAT HAS PERSISTED IN THE LCR AND NORTHEASTERN VALLEYS HAS BEEN SCOURED OUT FOR NOW...BUT AS THE WINDS DECREASE THIS WEEKEND...IT IS LIKELY THAT THESE AREAS WILL SLIDE BACK INTO AN INVERSION. A STRONG COLD FRONT IS STILL ON TAP FOR THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK...BUT IT LOOKS VERY DRY AT THIS TIME. DB
