Marisa Tomei announced as Endymion Grand Marshal

Hootie & the Blowfish, Pointer Sisters to ride and perform as well

Academy Award-winning actress Marisa Tomei will reign as Grand Marshal of Endymion, parade Captain Ed Muniz announced Wednesday, with musical groups Hootie & the Blowfish and the Pointer Sisters riding and entertaining as well.

Tomei, born in Brooklyn, New York in 1964, earned an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “My Cousin Vinny,” and a second nomination for her performance in 2002’s “In the Bedroom.”

Hootie & the Blowfish’s debut album, “Cracked Rear View,” arrived in 1994, and sold more than 13 million copies by 1996, making it the second best-selling debut album of all-time. The group is best known for such radio hits as “Hold My Hand,” and “Only Wanna Be with You.”

The Pointer Sisters—Ruth, Anita, June and Bonnie—emerged in the early ‘70s and scored numerous hits through the ‘70s and ‘80s, including “Jump (For My Love),” “Automatic,” and “I’m So Excited.”

Both musical groups are expected to perform at the Endymion Extravaganza in the Superdome with local groups The Nobles, Rockin’ Doopsie, and Cowboy Mouth.

Endymion rolls Saturday, February 4, 2005, and celebrates its 89th parade under the theme “Mythological Menagerie.”

"Endymion" - I've never heard of that before! I'm assuming it has to do with Mardi Gras based on the date.

It's one of the "monster" parades!! One of the prettiest.
