AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
252 PM EST SAT DEC 25 2004
.SHORT TERM...
INTERESTING FORECAST AS MODELS CONVERGE ON SIMILAR SOLUTION WITH
WINTER WEATHER BECOMING MORE OF A REALITY. LATEST RUN OF MODELS
SIMILAR WITH DEEPER MOISTURE SPREADING FARTHER NORTH ACROSS THE
COUNTY WARNING AREA TONIGHT AS SURFACE LOW MOVES ACROSS THE GULF
INTO CENTRAL FLORIDA. COLD THICKNESSES AND 850 ZERO DEGREE LINE
SUPPORTING MIXED PRECIP (RAIN/SLEET/FREEZING RAIN/SNOW) AS FAR NORTH
AS ATLANTA TO GAINESVILLE LINE. HAVE ISSUED WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY
FOR MUCH OF THE AREA JUST SOUTH OF ATLANTA-ATHENS LINE FOR LATE
TONIGHT/EARLY SUNDAY WHERE WE EXPECT THE HEAVIEST PRECIP. JUST NORTH
OF THE LINE...EXPECT PRECIP AMOUNTS TO BE LIGHT AND THINKING MORE
SNOW VERSUS ICE AND HAVE ISSUED A SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT TO
COVER. LATER SHIFTS WILL NEED TO KEEP A CLOSE WATCH AS ANY SHIFT OF
THE LOW FARTHER NORTH WOULD MEAN BETTER PRECIP AMOUNTS FARTHER
NORTH. SYSTEM PULLS OUT RATHER QUICKLY SUNDAY MORNING AS LOW MOVES
UP THE EAST U.S. COAST...TAKING BULK OF PRECIP WITH IT. HIGH
PRESSURE BUILDS INTO THE AREA SUNDAY NIGHT WITH DRY WEATHER AND A
WARMING TREND GETTING ON THE WAY MONDAY.
.LONG TERM...
SURFACE HIGH MEANDERS ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST STATES THROUGH MUCH OF
THE WEEK...PROVIDING FAIR SKIES AND ABOVE NORMAL HIGHS. EXTENDED
MODELS HINTING AT SOME INCREASE IN MOISTURE OVER MAINLY NORTHWEST
SECTS SATURDAY AS COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE WEST...BUT PLAN TO
HOLD OFF INTRODUCING PRECIP AND LET ANOTHER RUN OF MODELS CONFIRM
THAT POSSIBILITY.
&&
.PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
ATLANTA 30 46 29 50 / 30 00 00 00
ATHENS 28 44 29 51 / 30 10 00 00

WOOO HOOO!!
Jen
I'm feeling pretty good here... precip should be in before 8-9pm with a changeover around 11 or so(hopefully).
I wouldn't plan on it being here that early with the dry air that it will have to overcome. After midnight may be a better bet.

Snow or winter precip at 11:59 on 12/25 STILL qualifies as a White Christmas (am I desperate or what?)

So you think it really will snow?

I think so too. With busts it usually was predicted 4 days ago but never happened.
