Fla mets slowly waking up with WWA For N Fla

#1 Postby Anonymous » Sat Dec 25, 2004 8:30 pm

Looks like The winter storm continues to surprise the mets with them issuing and an advisory for north Fla at an odd hour (after 7pm instead of 430 pm when they put out the forecast.. Nearly all of Tallahassees CWA is now under the advisory. Though the map has a big hole in the advisories as the Entire NWS Jax is asleep or are out celebrating christmas and didnt issue one lol  Guess it should just be assumed to include anyone north of Lake city - Orange Park

See how the advisory just cuts off when you enter the Jax Cwa like the precip is gonna say-Hey, Im in the Jax CWA now so im gonna fall as rain LOL...

...A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR INLAND COUNTIES OF THE
EASTERN FLORIDA PANHANDLE AND BIG BEND FROM 11 PM EST (10 PM CST)
TONIGHT UNTIL 7 AM EST (6 AM CST) SUNDAY...

.A STRENGTHENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING EASTWARD ACROSS THE GULF
OF MEXICO...COMBINED WITH A STRONG UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE...WILL
CONTINUE TO PRODUCE WIDESPREAD RAINFALL THROUGHOUT THE AREA TONIGHT.
AS TEMPERATURES FALL LATER TONIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY MORNING...SOME OF
THIS RAIN WILL BECOME MIXED WITH SLEET OVER INLAND PORTIONS OF THE
EASTERN FLORIDA PANHANDLE AND BIG BEND. SNOW FLURRIES ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE IN SOME LOCATIONS...ESPECIALLY DURING THE EARLY MORNING
HOURS BEFORE SUNRISE. AS THE SURFACE LOW MOVES ACROSS THE FLORIDA
PENINSULA AND OFF THE EAST COAST...PRECIPITATION WILL GRADUALLY END
FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE AREA SUNDAY MORNING. THE GROUND REMAINS
RELATIVELY WARM...AND AFTER SUNRISE...AIR TEMPERATURES WILL ALSO WARM
TO ABOVE FREEZING...SO ACCUMULATIONS OF SLEET OR SNOW ARE UNLIKELY.

HOWEVER...TEMPERATURES WILL FALL TO NEAR FREEZING IN SOME AREAS
DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS SUNDAY...AND STANDING WATER ON
ROADWAYS AND ESPECIALLY BRIDGES COULD FREEZE AND MAKE FOR HAZARDOUS
DRIVING CONDITIONS. MOTORISTS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS THREAT AND TAKE
EXTRA PRECAUTIONS UNTIL TEMPERATURES WARM AFTER SUNRISE.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS ISSUED FOR A VARIETY OF WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS SUCH AS LIGHT SNOW, SLEET, AND FREEZING DRIZZLE...WHERE
SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATIONS...WHICH WOULD WARRANT A WINTER WEATHER
WARNING...ARE NOT EXPECTED.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND OTHER LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER
DETAILS OR UPDATES ON THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER SITUATION.

Jek, make NO mistake about it, its going to be close in JAX. You could see a Sleet pellet or two overnight.

Also, there is a pretty good squall line developing over the GOM so alert to my FL severe wx weenies... places south of MCO (Orlando) which get into the warm sector as the SFC low crosses the state could see some strong or SVR thunderstorms. Saving grace is that instability is weak b/c there is good VEERING w/ height / directional shear along the warm front (winds turning clockwise w/ height) contributing to REDICULOUSLY HIGH 3km Helicity values (as high as 900-1000 m2/s2) evident on area VWP s and lowset 6 km shear of 75-100 kt.

IF instability was more impressive anything that developed along the warm front would be able to readily rotate as the thunderstorm taps the directional shear.

I don't think there will be anything widespread but elevated thunderstorms will be common overnight that produce heavy rainfall. those which do become Surface based could have some small hail or gusty wind.

Seems to have warmed up a few degrees this evening but behind the low, winds will no longer be onshore and be from the north... Do you think the best chance to get colder/maybe frozen precip? will be after the low crosses Fla and our winds shift?
