SE Mass conditions....

#1 Postby Dave C » Wed Jan 05, 2005 9:39 am

Snow has developed locally in the last hr.(8am). Temps above freezing for now but have been steadily falling. We should get 1 or 2 inches but radar shows snow sheild over New York beginning to sink south as High builds in from the north. Thursday should be really interesting as warm air invades above us first. Locally looking for 2 or 3 inches then rapid change to rain as milder east winds off Atlantic warms lower levels. North and west of Boston....look out!!! should be some major icing with heavy snows in the mountains.

Dave,

I feel like a total idiot, but having lived in TX and SC most of my life... I have no idea what a "snow shield" is on radar. Could you explain? I'm moving to Seattle later this year & need to learn all the winter weather lingo. :D

It means the area of snow that is on radar. We've received 2 inches today and the snow should be ending later this afternoon. Seattle area should be in for some snow towards weekend.

Hi Dave,

It looks like about 4 inches out here on the Cape (Marstons Mills). That's what I've got on the deck...

It's the really pretty stuff--unfortunately that's what take out the power lines...
