Flooding possiblilty once again next week for OV

#1 Postby ohiostorm » Sat Jan 08, 2005 5:46 pm

As the flood waters recede on the Ohio River and streams and creeks in the area, the threat of more heavy rain comes into the forecast. Flooding on the Ohio River was about 3 to 4 feet below the stages we saw in September. Way to soon thats for sure. Areas around here normally use their flood gates once every 6 years but had to use them twice in the last 4 months so far. If we get the rains predicted this week, it will be alot worse then the last few days. Creeks and rivers still at bankfull with more rain isnt a good combination. Anyone have any thoughts on the systems coming this week?

Well I would say that we need to watch this. Times for rivers dropping below flood stage between Maysville, KY and Louisville may be longer. Right now the Ohio at Cincinnati (near where I actually live) looks like it will hit 57.5' Monday night and fall below flood stage Wednesday. I have my doubts about the latter.

Flooding here today at Cape Girardeau and Thebes, but not much (3' above stage)...by Wednesday, however, New Madrid will get the brunt of both the Mississippi and Ohio confluence flooding. Expected 8' over stage by Wednesday AM, possibly 100K acres affected. :larrow:
