Pioneer Valley report...

#1 Postby Tri-State_1925 » Sun Jan 23, 2005 1:23 am

1AM update...

Officially 5.5 inches on the ground...temp increasing to 13 deg F...wind picking up slightly...snowfall almost to a complete stop

Really a huge disappointment so far out here considering all the hyped up forecasts. After this beer here, I am going to sleep. Not only have the snow rates here not hit 1 inch/hour, there is absolutely no indication we will be getting the 1-3 inch/hour snowfall at any point.

One more thing...before 11PM there were already reports of 6-7 inch snow totals in this area. Obviously people were either completely lying, estimating and not even measuring, or including old snow cover in their totals. Nothing bothers me more... And I'm seeing it with my second home NYC...reports of 7 inches so far on the major news channels but then I'm also seeing 12+ inch reports elsewhere. Somebody is way off base. Personally I believe they have only about 7 inches.

10:45 AM...final report...

Snow just about stopped...sun in the southwest trying hard to break out...just got finished snowblowing and shoveling...

I'm going with an official storm total of 11 inches (I use pretty wind-protected areas)...with drifts up to 18 inches across the driveway and yard...

Across the valley there were generally reports of 12-14 inches this morning...I believe the majority of these reports are exaggerated, but whatever. Accurate reads are hard to come by with the snow drifts.

We didn't get the 20-30 inches they were forecasting for this area, but overall a pretty solid storm.

Btw, if I my camera weren't in another part of the state right now, I could have supplied some cool pictures. Maybe next time...
