Boston Tidbit

#1 Postby donsutherland1 » Thu Jan 27, 2005 7:38 am

Yesterday saw Boston receive 5.4" of snow. In doing so, Boston set a new all-time monthly record for snowfall at 43.1". Records go back to 1891-92.

To put things into perspective, January 2005 saw more snowfall than Winter 2003-04 (39.4"). In fact, if January 2005 were matched against seasonal snowfall would place in the upper half of seasons and rank 52nd in terms of seasonal snowfall:

49. 1901-02 and 1965-66 44.1"
51. 1896-97 43.2"
52. Jan. 2005 43.1"
53. 1983-84 43.0"
54. 1986-87 42.5"

With 0.2" of snow yesterday, Boston further increased its all-time monthly snowfall. Were January 2005 ranked against seasonal snowfall, it would now rank 51st.

49. 1901-02 and 1965-66 44.1"
51. Jan. 2005 43.3"
52. 1896-97 43.2"
53. 1983-84 43.0"
54. 1986-87 42.5"
