#1 Postby ohiostorm » Thu Feb 24, 2005 4:43 pm

I was just on accuweather and read this news story....

http://headlines.accuweather.com/adcbin/public/headlines.asp?iws=3

Looks to be a very big storm if it pans out. Anyone have any information on it?

From the map, I would bump the snow farther west and north. Every storm system this year has gone more north then what the models say. Lets just see what happens.

What does anyone think about Virginia's possibilities with this one?

temperatures for my area for the storm as of now are in the mid 30's. 36 by weather.com and almost the same for accuweather.

In my outlook it only seems like northern Virginia will get anything from this. Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and the rest of New England could get hammered with 15 inch totals EASILY. That means higher accumulations are definitely expected.

I guess that leaves northern Virginia with a measely 8 inches or so. I think I would be happy about any accumulation at this point.

(started snowing in Annapolis again...if it keeps up, I could reach 9 inches easily. this means Accuweather need to update their snowfall map.) :D 8-)

I have almost 7 inches in central nj and more moderate snows are expected to fall for the next couple of hours, I could approach 8 or 8.5 inches when I wake up tomorrow.

About Northern Virginia:

This winter has been terribly painful. It seems like we have come so close to the big one or several medium size ones and end up missing. I know, I know at least we are getting something, but to be so close to the big prediction areas to start with (seems like it has happened with each storm this winter) and then to usually end up getting significantly less snow than predicted (this seems like it has happened with each storm this winter also), ah!!!! It's terrible. We get teased here with each and every storm, I just want us to take one right on the nose, and we end up missing every time. In my opinion being teased like this, and missing everything by a whisker, is just as tough as being in the south and not getting anything. And now with winter's last hurrah shaping up for next week, to hear that we are once again going to just miss the major whallop, man it really hurts. Someone make me feel better, please.

Also up until about 6 o'clock tonight I was going to call today's storm a big time bust as well, but ever since it got dark the stuff has really started sticking. However, we probably lost out on a good 4 inches of acumulation during the day because it only stuck to the grass.

you guys in ohio could get big snows next week; a track west appalachians not out of the question, which would mean rain for me in Exton PA (which would suck)

DGEX model (which is extended NAM) shows 10+ inches for NE ohio next mon-tues. ECMFW now has storm heading on a more NNW track, i.e., just inland. Models beginning to trend toward West PA/Ohio Blizzard, which really stinks for me!!

it's only Friday morning and we have Saturday, the rest of today, Sunday, and a part of Monday to see what will actually happen, the trend this year has not only been north but east and that could become apparent in time, the models show it heading NNW which would warm up temperatures in the northeast, particulary near the coast.

The EURO is saying 24"+ for Philly!! And remember that the euro usually handles snowstorms best.

Sounds good to me!!! :D We haven't had a good blizzard here in a very long time! You know you're having a bad winter when you get excited over a 5 inch snowfall like we had here yesterday. Although, our forecast is calling for a high of 40 Monday, I noticed the models seem to have it colder than that the last I checked. Don't want a mixed bag to ruin this!

Local Mets are saying Monday will start out with rain, temps will fall and the rain will change to snow. None will say if this will be a big snow event or not yet.

So any details for the Cincinnati area would be very helpful. As we get closer to Monday that is.

Thanks!

Mary
