lots of rain

#1 Postby jann14 » Wed May 04, 2005 6:25 pm

Lots of rain here in Palm Beach this week. Mabey South Florida won't see any storms this year. I guess it is to soon to tell. Is the ridge supposed to set in? The waiting game is nerve wrecking.

So you think a hurricane will turn north just because the fact that it heard there was a cold front the week of May 2nd that brought some rain?

There is a clear correlation between May rainfall in FL and hurricane hits.
This rain is an indication that there is not enough ridging to keep the troughs from exiting the East coast of the U.S and South FL. We still need to wait a few weeks to see how the rest of May holds, but if we see a few more troughs make it this far south like this and we don't see the E windflow pickup over FL around the southwestern edge of the Bermuda High, then this could mean that the ridging in the Western Atlantic won't be as strong in July-Sept (e.g. like last summer). This still does not rule out the possibility of a hurricane hitting FL from the E but the chances would be less since the Bermuda High would not be as persistent. f course storms from the S and SW (GOM and Caribbean) are very possible and have happened repeatedly for FL especially during the 1920s-1950s. But during that active era, FL got hit from every direction

Here' my prediction. Let's see if it holds:

This week will be the only rainy week for South FL. Once this front exits, we'll see the first strong signs of ridging that we have seen all winter and a pattern change will happen. Actually we usually see this in May anyway but I don't expect all of this above normal troughiness to stick around much longer. Then, we'll wonder if the first week in May should not count since the rest of May will be relatively dry for South FL.

But, we really need to wait at least 2-3 more weeks to see how May pans out. The first few days are not enough to make any kind of guess.

Here is my prediction!!!! :D
Come July or August we will be watching several storms with probably a major in the mix. We will all be guessing about the track and will all be waiting on the NORTH turn. When will it happen, where will it hit, how strong will it be, will the trough grab it, will shear get it, will dry air get it, will cold water weaken it, will warm water strengthen it, will the crazy dude with the diaper gel stop it, is a cross dimensional time warp due to the extreme energy showing through because there is a pentagram in the eye, and all of the other spirited debates that swirl (pun intended) around during the "heart of the season" This will happen just you wait and see. This is the only prediction that I can make at this time with any degree of certainty.
LOL Tim :D 8-) :fishing:

Tim, your prediction is a mighty good one overall, but if it were mine, I'd adjust the timeline a tad to watching several storms in August and September, etc. and revise July to allow for the anticipated annual "Dud Season?" and "What was Dr. Gray thinking?" posts. Like the swallows returning to Capistrano.
