Hurricane Season Should Begin May 1 ?

#1 Postby EmeraldCoast1 » Wed May 18, 2005 2:39 pm

Even if just a few TD's, TS's, or canes have developed over the years prior to June 1, it still seems harmless to begin the season in May vs. June.

All it will take is one storm to do some significant damage in May of one year and we'll have a bunch of nuts blaming it all on the lack of foresight by the U.S. Govt.

Better safe than sorry? Opinions on starting the season one month early?

well since May is usually inactive, I'd stick with June, if it starts in may, it feels like a storm will soon appear, but I still have to wait a long time.

are you talking about the EPAC or Atlantic. For the Atlantic, I was actually thinking more like mid June or July to start. Nothing really gets going until July in the Atlantic (actually more like August).

mid June would be great for the Atlantic, because after mid month, there is a great chance of development.

It would not be a good idea to have the season start prior to June.
History shows that. Adrian is in an area that historically does support
cyclone activity. The freak act of a crossover - should it happen -
does not warrant any changes in the Atlantic season.

First of all some people may not. Secondly, EmeraldCoast made a comment, thinking that the Season should begin May 1st. I shouldn't be castigated for making a post of this sort.

May 1st in the ATLANTIC.

Oh and most everyone here should know because everyone here has an interest in tropical weather. They wouldn't be here otherwise.

Brent, NO WHERE in the original post did it state ATLANTIC. No reason to jump all over CF77 like you did.

Also, just because you may have an interest in something, does not mean you have to have lots of knowledge about it. You come off as very rude in this thread.

I think the Atlantic is okay starting June 1st to November 30. But I believe the EPAC season should be from May 15 to November 15.

I am sure some join this board because they are intersted in the tropics, but don't have a tremendous interest like you, me, the mods and the professional meteorologists.

I didn't know that. Brent don't forget that some of us are newbies. We are definitely in the learning curve. I learn something new everyday on here and hope to learn more. I've learned a lot from reading some of your posts. I'm glad ColdFront77 posted the info.
