These Pressure Readings Seem Unusually Low To Me

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

These Pressure Readings Seem Unusually Low To Me

#1 Postby abajan » Thu May 19, 2005 4:02 am

Have a look at these barometric readings (especially 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM) and tell me if this is normal: http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/TBPB.html

Isn't 1008 millibars what you would expect to see in a Tropical Depression? For the last week or so, I've been noticing these low pressure readings for Barbados.

when Trooical storm Adrian started as a TD, the pressure was 1005.
1008 does seem low if there is not a storm in the area.

I remember reading on an FA discussion from San Juan like 2 days ago that pressure was 1008 at the airport that night. Pressure does go down during night hours in th tropics but 1008 is pretty low. Its like that in the Pacific though, but not in the Atlantic. I also think I read in either the NOAA year forecast or the Dr Gray forecast, that one of the factors for a high season was the below normal pressures in the Atlantic this year.
