Tropical Weather Outlook
Statement as of 5:30 PM EDT on June 15, 2005
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...
A stationary upper-level low interacting with a surface trough
continues to produce cloudiness and scattered showers over the
north-central Caribbean Sea and adjacent land areas. This system
is becoming less organized and upper-level winds remain unfavorable
for tropical cyclone development. However...locally heavy rainfall
and occasional gusty winds may occur tonight across portions of
Jamaica...Hispaniola...and eastern Cuba.
A tropical wave is producing a large area of cloudiness and
showers over the Bay of Campeche and adjacent land areas. Although
upper-level winds are favorable for tropical cyclone formation...
the close proximity to land may inhibit development. An Air Force
Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the
area on Thursday...if necessary. However...even if the system does
not develop into a tropical cyclone...periods of locally heavy
rainfall and gusty winds may occur over portions of southeastern
Mexico during the next day or two as the system moves slowly
westward or northwestward.
Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through
Thursday.
