ON the skinny black line. The cone of propbability is what should be focused on.

That is one of the most UNDER-EMPHASISED statements about
tropical systems.

If you are under a hurricane warning, you should expect hurricane
conditions at your house and prepare accordingly.

if you were a gulf resident, just use your head...anywhere from Brownsville to at least Mississippi......even AL FL panhandle should not ignore it...but every GOMER needs to at least know its there

Last time that happened, we didn't get winds higher than 30 mph. I think if you are on the edge of a warning you are OK... near the middle you should be worried.

I totally disagree. EVERYONE in the cone needs to watch this system. It wouldn't for those jussssssst outside the cone to at least know that this TD is there.

Matt (I believe that is your name, not to be confused with the other Matt we know),

You need to be more careful in your posts. I would even ask your opinion on this: Last year when the media kept calling for Charley to hit Tampa, when the cone was much larger than just there, what would you have advised for other residents IN THE CONE in advance? Many residents in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte did not evacuate because the media treated Charley like it was going to Tampa and nowhere else. (Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte WERE in the cone of uncertainty as well.)

Posts like that will make people complacent, and then when they DO get hit by a hurricane, they blame it on who they heard it from. If people in, say, New Orleans, become complacent just by reading your posts (New Orleans is at the FAR edge of the cone) and assume that, because of your statements, the storm will strictly go up the middle, they might not evacuate or prepare at all. Then, what if the storm turns their way suddenly and hits THEM head-on before they "could" evacuate? People will be blaming YOU for telling them not to worry....when they SHOULD have been worrying!!!

Moreso, if you continue to stir up trouble the way you seem to be, people may regard you as a troll. When someone is regarded as a troll, the best advice for people is to ignore the troll. Is this what you want, to be ignored by people?

In short, if ANY resident lives in the cone of uncertainty ANYWHERE, the system must be watched....even if along the edges.

Rant over, I'm off the soapbox.

And Matt, please don't read me wrong. If you improve your posts, which I genuinely hope you do, then you would be a welcome member at S2K! In fact, I still consider you welcome here like any other member.

Just think about your posts before you make them.

Well

I have neverf seen a TS or hurricane go exactly to where the early predictions say it will go. If those not in the cone are aware that there is a system out there they can prepare if there is a shift in direction. I know I evaced when Ivan was comming directly to the MS Gulf coast and even though it did not actually hit here I was glad I was not waiting for the change if it did not come. Better safe than sorry and better to watch and prepare than be left with no supplies, shelter, etc.

Well I'll tell ya, after last year's demonic mass of weather systems coming through, the news around here always talks about how everyone within the cone should be aware, alert and prepared.
I will never not consider the entire cone again. Not after last year.
You guys are excellent at what you do here, I wish more people knew about this place, but there still exist a collective complacent population out there that do not heed even their local forecast. This group includes everyone from Joe Q. Public to the employers of thousands of people.
The one thing that is not being pushed enough is that somehow this earth has changed, nothing is concrete anymore (as we used to know it to be anyway), and anything can change in a moment's notice or less.

When these people put out these warnings please heed them every single one. I respect the fact that many people put in long hard hours studying and researching these weather patterns and I really don't think anyone would put out something that they didn't think was serious. So hats off to all of ya...cause ya know something? All those lines and graphs and dots and arrrows and flags make me go :double: but having it explained in words I can understand make me
And employers ya need to cut your staff a break and instead of threatening the employee with firing them for not showing up while the wind is blowing a good 45-50 mph, you need to go home and hide in the closet and beg forgiveness. :Door: period amen.

Rant off.

Last time you were lucky. I'm happy to hear that, but please don't tell folks it's ok to ignore the warning cone beacause you were fortunate once. These storms do strange things, and when they do they are likely to end up at the edge of the cone. It happens all the time.

Of course, some in Charlotte Harbor were fruious that Charley made
landfall there, even thought they were in the cone and under a hurricane warning.

Is that really a risk worth taking???
