That's the first page of today's newspaper, "Granma." Evacuations are already occurring in the Eastern provinces of the island since yesterday. These provinces will suffer severe damages mainly in the agricultural sector like it happened in 1998 with Georges. Also, cattle is very important in the area and the government is trying to minimize the losses. Flooding is another major concern because of the terrain, furthermore, the islands widest river, El Cauto, is located in Santiago de Cuba and Granma. The Western and Central provinces are also preparing to weather the storm. The last storm to hit eastern Cuba was Georges and the last major hurricane hit was Hurricane Flora in 1963.
