Dry air is being sucked towards the system...in fact it already looks like the western side of the system is being hit pretty decently with this dry air as evidenced on water vapor imagery.... take a look at it

Do you have a link to look at to see the core detaching? I don't know what annular looks like. I thought it meant more oblong (obviously wrong).

Annular means 'ring-like.' In other words nearly a perfect circle. See this thread for lots of examples:
