Garrett speaks his mind. {Subject: Media Coverage of Dennis}
Well, I may wind up in the minority, but I would like to thank the media outlets for their tireless coverage of Hurricane Dennis. I have seen a lot of people bashing Dennis and the media, but if it hadn't been for those people out there braving the storm showing us the images... there would likely have been more people trying to go out into the storm.
On a related note, I am not usually a big fan of CNN, but they put FNC,MSNBC, and TWC to shame today with their coverage! I was truly impressed.

Agree with you on CNN -- something I noticed last year also. I suppose since it wasn't political, I was able to stay with them without grimacing. I'd flip around between TWC, Fox, MSNBC, and CNN, but CNN was the only one that held my attention and had continuous coverage of the storm (at least, when I *was* watching which wasn't quite all day, but off and on). Besides, I simply can NOT watch Geraldo Rivera.
I kept waiting for a chair to fly in and bust him in his nose. I simply can't take him seriously ever since his talk show days.

I thought CNN did a great job. We don't receive Fox news on our Satellite tier so I can't give an opinion on that channel. Only problem I have is with the CNN female anchor, brunette with flipped back sides (shades of Charlie's Angels look). Her comments were getting annoying.
My beef with TWC is they need to:
1. Stop saying they're in Storm Alert Mode - we can see it at the bottom of the screen.
2. Stop introducing themselves. We know who they are by now and if not, we don't really care when there's a major wx event taking place.
3. Cease commercials during Storm Alert Status.
Speaking of TWC, I was surprised to see new fave young female OCM Stephanie Abrams stuck in the studio. Thought she'd be out in the field again, getting blown about. Now I found her annoying last year, don't get me wrong, not a SA fan here. But when I saw her at the desk I was surprised. Thought she would be one OCM that would push for on location shoots.

The CNN anchor I think you're referring to was Soledad O'Brien. She used to be with NBC and was co-host of The Today Show's weekend edition with the now-deceased David Bloom, who succumbed to a pulmonary embolism while reporting in Iraq.

I've never been impressed with Stephanie Abrams. I didn't get what the big deal was with watching her last year. All the guys went goo-goo eyed.

I agree... CNN certainly KILLED TWC. TWC's crown as everyone's weather source has fallen.

I absolutely hate Geraldo. Don't like Greta either, her face/voice(but she doesn't cover hurricanes so that's another subject).

Shawn - that's her!! I posted this elsewhere but they were trying to interview a P'cola Fire Chief before Dennis hit and they kept losing live feed. She said - that was my fear, we'd lose connection. Your biggest fear (I can't recall if she said the word biggest) is losing live feed? How about loss of human life? I was watching with my husband Jim who of course tolerates this wx interest I have. Announcing - ohhhh, Mary, TWC is in Storm Alert! He points out the sensational references the media does now. But he kept commmenting what her reaction was when they'd come back to anchors, sitting with pencil in mouth, chin in hand, looking so serious. I'm sorry, but her entire manner just seemed - fake, or for a better choice of words - scripted!

Have to agree with you guys on CNN. The Weather Channel was pitiful. Before I quit watching completely, I can't tell you how many times their graphics were out of date. The graphic was saying one thing while you were hearing something totally different from the met.

Jacque Jeras (spelling may be incorrect) did an excellent job working 13 hour shifts both Saturday and Sunday on-air!

Well of course for me, I only had TWC or FOXNEWS for choices with my pathetic cable... I really didn't like either one of them. I found myself looking away from the screen more than looking at it. I agree with Miss Mary on the stormalert, they say that WAY to much! FOXNEWS wasn't that great in my opinion either...
I guess roaming the forums and other local media sites was the best option for me...

I've always liked Cantore, mostly because he's a true weatherfreak, but we could all do without the melodrama.
I was in the car driving to Chicago on Sunday during landfall, which was like déjà vu, because last August 13 I was coincidentally also driving to Chicago when Charley was making landfall.
Next time I drive to Chicago, I'll warn NHC.

I caught TWC not the other stations. Greta (CNN) should stay with her background... Law (Sorry she's a local product... Appleton, WI hometown!)
Anyways, TWC kept showing the same graphics over and over again, and i'm surprised brunette bobble head doll wasn't there (Stephanie Abrams... I've never liked her from the beginning... they can take Hillary off also, IMO)
Geraldo falling on his butt was great... that was all over the news up here!!
