Is YOUR plywood still up?

#1 Postby HurryKane » Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:57 pm

In my neighborhood, my vastly unscientific survey--i.e. drive down the main drag to and from work--reveals that of the few here who did board up or shutter, 90% have left the plywood or shutters in place. I could not, however, ascertain whether this is due to being prudent as Emily approaches, or sheer laziness.

How about your neck of the woods? And did anybody do any spectacular plywood decorating? The El Maguey restaurant in Gulfport wrote this on their plywood this year: "Dennis go away--Beans are not good for you."

Last year, they wrote: "GO HOME IVAN--NO TACOS FOR YOU." :D

Last year here in tampa, noone unboarded. We pretty much left em up for almost 2 months. It was so horrible it felt like i was living in some wierd dumpy place with all boarded up broken down houses. Couldnt even get gas or food at the stores for over a month. Sucked real bad.

It came down today. I'm tired of living in a cave.

I've taken a couple down for light, but I'm considering leaving the majority of them up and, at a minimum, this large glassed in porch area. As for the reason, you guessed it; sheer laziness. I don't want to spend 5+ hours putting those things up with only my 5'5", 110 lb. wife to help me with the task.

They have a few homes that never took their boards down from Lili and that was a few years ago! We boarded for Isidore that year. And my dad took them down the next day. But, less than a week later, we were boarding again for Lili.

The plywood here in Texas in most homes are dry rotted by now. Last time I had to put up plywood was for Brett in 99.

We're feeling bold and took it down as soon as we got home from our evacuation return yesterday. Yes, I know, it may have to go back up, but why tempt fate by leaving it up????

Seems that was fate goes, leaving it up would ensure no more hits. Pulling it down would result in the need to put it back up.
