Destin Post Dennis
Well, it looks like my vacation to Destin, Florida will go on as scheduled. We will be there from August 4th-11th. We are staying at the Pelican Beach Resort which is in downtown Destin right across from Big Kahunas. I had this booked since March and already took over a week vacation time from work that week. I went to the website and they said their condo fared well. The only thing that was destroyed was their sundeck for tanning. Their pools are fine and even the beach is in decent shape considering Dennis. I was really worried that I was going to have to cancel and go further east to Panama City Beach. I don't like Panama City Beach like I love Destin. Panama City is only good if you are a wild teen ager or young college student in your early 20's. So, Destin, here we come... Almost all the restraunts and attractions including Big Kahunas are already open or will be operating by the end of the week.

I'll agree there: even at the age of 26 (albeit, married), the place was just too much.

Yeah, I went to Panama City Beach 2 summers ago. I felt like I was the oldest one there. The 2 friends I went with were only 21 and 19 at the time, and I had just turned 27 the month before. We must of met over 75 guys though. But, none were close to my age (nobody over the age of 24). But, since I was self conscious of my age and thought the guys were going to think I was too old, I lied about my age. And said I was 23. These guys were never going to see me again and I look a lot younger than my age. So, it was no problem at all, playing it off. Nobody even questioned it.

As a resident of Panama City I would agree partially with what you stated though traditionally Panama City Beach has been more of a family destination with the exception of Spring Break. The beach is undergoing a huge facelift, the Miracle Strip Amusement Park has been closed and a lot of the older Motels have been bought by Commercial Developers. There are over 25 new Condo/Resorts under construction right now. Destin is a much nicer area, they have done a tremendous job over there and PC Beach is now trying to play catch up and attract a segment of the market that they have been missing out on. Come visit next year and I bet you won't recognize the place, but I certainly can't blame you for going to Destin though it is a lot more expensive...

PCB, my first trip away from home without my parents. Yep, had a blast. This goes way back to the early 70's. Hwy 98 was bumper-to-bumper as there was no by-pass then. We would cruise the strip between Petticoat Junction amusement park to past The Miracle Strip amusement part. It is a pity that both are closed now. Sorry, but I liked PCB back in the old day, I guess I just have too many fond memories of the place......MGC
