Old Mexico.
Is that a sparsely populated area? What is the topography there? I would guess rather low and arrid?

Cancun is in the state of Quintana Roo population 750,000. Home also to Playa del Carmen and Tulum ruins. To the Northeast of QR is Yucatan state home to 1,550,000 people and many Maya ruins like Chicken-Itza. This area is very tropical and fairly hilly. If it Emily follows most of the tracks she should make landfall in the state of Veracruz where 7,000,000 people live. The city of Veracruz city (pop 405,000) is the largest port on the GOM in Mexico it is home to many archaeological sites. Tampico pop 320,000 is more north and appears to be in the current path. Veracruz state is home to Mexicos highest peak an extinct volcano so I would say a good part of the state is mountainous my guess is like California but I might just be thinking that because it is a long narrow state with a long coastline.
