Mexican hurricane history?

#1 Postby cancunkid » Sun Jul 17, 2005 10:37 am

Does anyone know of a site where I could read about past hurricanes that might have hit the Mexican states of Quintana Roo, Yucatan and Campeche? I was wondering about the Mayan ruins in the area. They are about a thousand years old but a lot of them are in very good shape so I wondered if this is an area that is often hit by major hurricanes. I especially wonder about Tulum since it is by far the most beautiful of the ruins and it sits right on the ocean it seems like it would be so vulnerable.

Okay I did a lot of looking around and unfortunately I don't read Spanish so I finally found some info on http://www.hurricanecity.com on how likely it is that a city is going to be hit by a hurricane. Since 1871 Merida, Mexico ranks 9th and Cozumel, Mexico ranks 30th so my guess is Tulum looked fine after Gilbert it will look fine after just about anything.
