Too many threads going

#1 Postby jasons2k » Thu Jul 21, 2005 12:41 pm

I know, the irony of creating yet another one but I had no idea where to put this.

Can we lock some of these up? It's getting very hard to follow 90L, much less SW Carib., with all this duplicity. It's getting out of hand in a hurry.

Thanks Mods!!! Ur the best!!

I think the bad threads will eventually get weeded out by our posters.

It makes the staffs job harder when there are 3 threads on the same topic. Please everyone try and limit them. Add to the existing ones. It makes our Job easier and the board easier to navigate...especially when there is activty. Thanks :D

That is what I try to do when I create threads.I post in there all about that theme there to not make separate threads. :)

I'm thinking that there may need to be more specific directions about how to limit threads.

How about suggesting to people that they look over the first two pages of threads for a thread on their topic. Post in that thread, if there is one, and post a new thread if there isn't anything.

(My thinking: Searching, to find any thread on the topic, is not as reliable as the built-in fuzzy logic of our eyeballs -- the search resuilts would depend on the keywords used. Moreover, digging up old threads from the distant past (as opposed to posting in a recent thread) would have the same effect as posting a new thread (lotsa new clutter). Two pages, imo, is a reasonable amount of reading to scan, as long as the thread titles bear some resemblance to their content.

An obvious exception here to "skim two pages" would be a common question. Those kind of topics ought to be searched on for the simple reason that the answer has probably been posted many times over.)

hey i have an idea may be the site can get a search bar that you type the topic that you are looking for in it and it shows all the threads that have that information

There is already a search function at the top of the page, right in between "FAQ" and "Memberlist"

The only problem with relying solely on the search function for people to police themselves with, is that it's turned off during extremely high traffic--just when new, extraneous threads are being created left and right.

I think the mods did a really good job of locking the frivolous threads during Emily...I hope they do that again...that sends a good message that it will not be tolerated.
