Space Shuttle is in orbit

#1 Postby TreasureIslandFLGal » Tue Jul 26, 2005 8:57 am

Looks like it will be a go this morning. Remember we thought Franklin might screw it up last week? -well no problem now!

Here is a link to the NASA site where you can link to live feeds of the launch!

Good luck to our astronauts! Safe return! :P

I have been looking forward to this. I just hope my mom will let the girls watch it while I am working today. And praying that everything goes smoothly and a safe return!

I hope we can see it from here (west coast FL) as usual. Since the african dust is in the air, we may not have as nice a view as we have been afforded in the past!
We are all being allowed to go outside and watch it at work today. Everyone here is very excited as we have a big interest in the successful launch as my company has an awful lot at stake over this going right.

Just came down from the roof to our building in WPB - could see most of the launch, but very hazy (probably due to the SAL). Pretty cool to watch though :)

And here's a McIdas image of the liftoff. You can see the vapor trail extending NE form the Cape:

TV? That's NOTHING compared to being *there* and watching it.

TIFGal, I hope you got to see a good view. :)

Beautiful launch, now we gotta get 'em home safe, then I know a lot of us here in Houston will be breathing a bit easier.

This event is just something that takes your breath away and makes you respect the marvels of engineering.

We couldn't see it from outside. Check that SAT pic and you can see the clouds above us on the west coast. :( But we did see it by NASA TV. Pretty neat with all the new camera views they were able to use this time around.

Grew up with my Dad working (engineer) at the Cape (Apollo, moon shot era)...and even though I'm far away now I still get that shiver remembering the air shaking, that huge flame and trail in the sky. Just reading posts of those who saw the lift off today...wow! Prayers for a safe trip and return.
