Let the games begin...

#1 Postby Vortex » Fri Aug 19, 2005 2:51 pm

Like the rest of you I've been following x10 for days. For the first time this afternoon I think we have a system beginning to organize. The overall envelope looks much better and it will remain favorable for the next 3-5 days. I expect deep convection to fire over the MLC this evening/overnight and we should have TD 10 back by tommorrow afternoon. Based on the time of year, warmer SST annomalies(Bahamas/Florida) and the overall synoptic environment forecasted I'm leaning towards a 75-85kt storm near the central bahamas Monday night/Tuesday morning.....

Cat1 in the Bahamas? Wow that would be scary. Eventhough its a Cat1 it can still be scary I guess. I would not argue against you simply because the waters off the FL east coast are so darn warm. Our CBS4 news local met says the water temps right off the coast are pretty darn close to 90F. That is just insane and could fuel a tropical system big time.

That's some of the stuff I was saying a few days ago...there are some things that hint on some potential steady-significant intensification in the Bahamas.

Yeah. Things were really tough for you guys up there with Frances and Jeanne. I can only imagine how annoying it was for you to through that. The last hurricane South Florida went through was Irene in 1999. It was a cat 1 with 80mph winds I believe at landfall. Andrew yes I remember but Irene was the last hurricane for sure. But you guys went through 2 hurricanes so quickly. Ouch I would have chickened out a long time ago

Kinda thinking that same but was scared to post it :) One thing I am 100% sure of is the water is bath tub warm and getting warmer. It will be interesting to see how it does tonight, as I have stated before, this disturbance likes the night. Jose (disclamer- not jumping the gun) is not a vampire name :)

given the position this thing is in and climatology, the probability is that it will develop...and with the warm SSTs and ridge ahead of it I believe it will be a hurricane passing through S. Florida and the FL Keys in 5 days.

91? Unbelievable. I work for the Town of Jupiter. Although we certainly haven't started emergency preparations yet, the are closely monitoring the storm and are prepared to go into emergency mode at any time.

I think maybe, maybe, MAYBE we feel the effects of a weak 45 knot TS. Even if the environment gets better, as it appears to be doing, and it organizes into something, I think it will run out of room.

A weak 45 knot T.S would be ok with me. As long as it brings some rain to cool us down here in FL Im all up for it.

I have a funny feeling something really odd is going to happen with this wave.
