Synoptic Drop Mission Added to Plan

Just wanted to pass this on...the NHC added an environmental synoptic flight for tomorrow night plus most likely another for Thursday.

This will give us a good picture of exactly how much of a turn we'll get from the ridge build-back...as these drops should be happening right around that time.

Good deal. Once this data is put into the models we'll have a better idea on where the second landfall might be.

So the data from the NOAA jet will be put into the 00Z models for tomorrow night?

Ahhh yes, a Godsend.

On the flip-side, don't they usually only do this if they are expecting it to be a dangerous system?

Sounds reasonable, especially given its close proximity to land already. its no problem for the NOAA Gulfstream jet to get there and get some good data.

it doesn't have to be a dangerous system as they ran these flights on irene as well even though she did pose a threat for a short time on the models

Hey GT, first person I have seen from Savannah!! I lived there from '84-'88. I was 10-14 at the time, went to Anderson then Myers, and lived on Wilmington Island. Have not been there since '89 - heard it has grown a lot since then.

Pat Prokop one of the best mets IMO.

Wilmington Island has really taken off - even has a Wal-Mart on the way out to the beach :lol: . Prokop is still here - runs a pretty good web page for WTOC. I work for good ol' Gulfstream - the NOAA plane is here every once and awhile for maintenance. Amazing machine.
