a Hurricane Hall of Fame..?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

a Hurricane Hall of Fame..?

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Mon Aug 29, 2005 3:31 pm

Someone mentioned in a post earlier that if there was a Hurricane Hall of Fame.. Katrina would definitely be in..

This actually got me thinking

Call me crazy for this idea.. But I think we here at S2k should come up with our own HHOF

Or at least everyone can make a list of who they think deserves to be in..
{and yes Pacific storms and Typhoons can be included}

Forget me if this idea sounds senseless at this time of great tragedy and catastrophic destruction.. But it came to me a little while ago..

Please feel free to give your list of storms for the HHOF if you feel the urge or desire to do so

I like the idea... this type of events and their implications should be well remembered.

I propose Mitch, Tip, Tracy and Katrina.

Fame?

Fame is probably a poor choice of words... maybe shame or infamy... but I understand where you're coming from.

How about Hazel or the Long Island Express of 1938 :?:

Having been through Fran, I would have to say it doesn't belong in the HHOF. Sure, it was a strong windstorm and all, but compared to the others here it doesn't have what it takes to make it into a HOF. Floyd, on the other hand, rightly deserves a place in there for the once-in-a-lifetime flooding it brought to my area.

The legendary Hurricane John should also be included.

Awesome idea! Pretty much every storm I would nominate has been mentioned already, but I have one. Kyle (2002). Without a doubt. What a ride he took us on. :P

Hey now, speak for yourself. We were practically in the eye. With me being only 8 at the time, and with it being at night, it wasn't too fun.

I live in NE North Carolina, was without power for nearly two weeks when Isabel hit, and my family and I ate Red Cross meals for a while till we got power back. Still, I don't think she belongs on the "Hall of Fame"list. Hurricanes by definition bad storms, and only the worst of the worst should be on any list. I was in western NC for Hugo and will never forget it, and we were 200 miles inland from Charleston. In terms of power plus size, Hugo was one of the worst. Floyd, which combined with several other factors created a 500 year flood for NC and parts of VA, deserves a spot.

Your name is gilbert88 and you didn't mention Gilbert? No list is complete without the Galveston hurricane of 1900.

Jtsmarts mentioned Galveston already (if that's what he meant by "1900")... but yeah, I agree, definitely.

"Hall of Fame" is not appropriate, IMO. A hall of fame should be reserved for celebration, not disaster and loss and sadness. Call it an exhibit, or something like that. Talk about "remembrance," not "fame."
