anyone hear anything from Grand Isle, Boothville, or Venice?

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from these places.

Any idea on how many people there did not follow evacuation orders?

I know the areas south of New Orleans are sparsely populated... but I fear that most people who stayed, died.

Ive been worrying about Buras, GI and Venice for a while. All those towns in Thibodeaux and Plaqeumines have got to be devastated.

Hey Innotech! How did Lafayette make out? I heard it was to have max 45mph winds and "some" rain. Did that prove true?

I heard that 7 people decided to ride out the storm in Grand Isle. The area was under 20 feet of water. No one has heard from the 7 who decided to stay. Grand Isle would be impossible to get to now.

The only report I heard was Grand Isle was under 20 feet of water... and they were in the western eyewall, not the eastern.

yes, aside from a blustery squally day, LAfayette was untouched. we were EXTREMELY fortunate.

The weather Sunday night was awesome. We probably had winds in the 25 mph range with a very light rain. We had a little Hurricane party, but nothing serious.

On Monday we had even better weather. It's been so hot down here that the breezes helped out.

I'm actually in a class right now that's canceled because of an alarm malfunction. I'm pretty tired from being on the boards all night lol.

I'm following the New Orleans story closely. I still can't get in touch with anyone from New Orleans that works at Tulane.

This is all the information I have.

The road beyond the Leeville bridge is under water. I know that someone did a flyover Fourchon and Grand Isle early this am, all I know is that lots of structural damage to some of the highest, and tallest structures was spotted. There was no word on the houses, lower structures or anything like that. I'm not even sure if they can be seen. I know this flyover was done in a fixed wing, so its not that easy to get detailed information. Helicopters are probably going out right now to get better views.

As far as the Venice area. The Empire bridge is out. Apparently a tug tied up to it for safety and that helped the storm pull it over. There is no other way into that area, its all under water as far as I know.

DH is trying to get any information he can from work - he works for a company in the area with facilites in both these areas and the ability to check them out - lots of friends and collegues have homes in these areas too. Lots of friends in the same industry, also probably assessing damage and conditions in these areas, so there should be more information coming as the day unfolds. I'll pass on what I find out.

DH called, said he was listening to 870 am. Reports from flyovers over lower Plaquemines parish say there is no lower Plaquemines parish. The whole area on the map jutting out in the exteme SW LA, has no land visible from the air.

This is just getting more terrible by the minute
