Please forgive if this post is not in the appropriate place, this is the first time I've posted. Huntsville, Texas is located about 80 miles north of Houston, in Walker County. A Red Cross shelter has been set up at the First Baptist Church, on Avenue J, in Huntsville. Here is an excerpt from an article in the local newspaper by reporter Tom Waddill, "The Huntsville Item" (website: http://itemonline.com/articles/2005/09/ ... /news1.txt):
"Walker County Chief Deputy Butch Davis said the people who stay at the shelter here will have access to the church's computer where they can log onto a Web site set up specifically for folks who want to register and tell their family members they're alive and safe in Huntsville. They can also see where their friends and loved ones are. Others who are not staying at the shelter can log onto http://www.pleasenotifyme.org and register.
Davis said people can also call the hotline set up by the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce - (936) 295-8113, or toll-free at (800) 289-0389 - to inquire about the whereabouts of relatives, neighbors or friends. The chamber will forward that information to Davis' team, which will send it to the Texas operation center, then on to the people in Louisiana."
I just wanted to pass along information that may be helpful to someone.
