Trying to Help the Jobless......

#1 Postby JenBayles » Thu Sep 01, 2005 6:55 am

Following is an email conversation with our supposedly Christian HR Director. Her generosity is underwhelming. (Name deleted to protect the guilty.) Start at the bottom and work your way up....

Hi [name deleted]. Thank you for responding to Steven. I was thinking of something more along the lines of intern-type positions for these people. However, I will be sure to inform Ellen and Charlotte of the Company's generous donation to the Red Cross.

Donna,

It occurs to me that a more meaningful way of helping is finding employment for some of these people. I think we all realize they have nothing to go home to, and a paycheck is needed far more than a handout and a bottle of water. Can we offer anything, however temporary, in this area? I personally know 2 women here with children who would probably jump at the chance to earn a paycheck, and Steven Matthews has several homeless people at his house as well.

Dear All,

With recent catastrophic damage from Hurricane Katrina to our neighboring states of Louisiana and Mississippi earlier this week, the company has decided to donate money to the American Red Cross in response to this devastating natural disaster. It is now publisized this is the costliest natural disaster to hit the United States. Help is needed and together we can make a difference!

Collectively the Group Companies will donate $5,000 and will also match the contributions from employees up to a ceiling of a another $5,000.

You are all invited to join in this meaningful effort to assist our unfortunate neighbors in their time of need.

Please make checks payable to the American Red Cross and submit to Theresa Kison (located on the 4th FL in accounting) by September 15th.

If you have already made a contribution to the American Red Cross or FEMA for the victims of Katrina, please bring a
copy of your receipt to Theresa K. to count towards the companies matching fund.

Your generosity will be much appreciated!
