Mitch kinda overshadowed Georges. But no mistake georges was a very significant hurricane.

7 landfalls

Antigua, St kitts and Puerto Rico were hit as a 115 mph Category 3 (most significant hurricane in the region since Luis in 1995 or Hugo in 1989)

Dominican Republic was hit as a 120 mph category 3 Hurricane (strongest since David in 1979)

eastern Cuba as a 75 mph category 1 Hurricane

Florida Keys as a 105 mph category 2 Hurricane

Mississippi as a 110 mph category 2 hurricane

damage done to US mainland alone was around $1.7 Billion but when u put in the costs of Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands it was around $5.9 BIllion. (easily the costliest US hurricane for the season)

this was a killer hurricane. Killing like 602 people which at the time was 18th deadliest althogh a month later mitch would make these seem insignificant in comparison.

I agree. Hurricane Georges was a very underrated storm.
