Do you have the History Channel? Because today starting at 8 they are b going to start a Katrina special. Here is the Schedual:

8:00 p.m. Modern Marvels: Lake Pontchartrain Causeway
9:00 p.m. Katrina: American Catastrophe
10:00 p.m. Hurricanes: Category Five

Well, I guess I'll be floating between the Florida/Tennesssee game and the history channel. Thanks for posting this. I am especially interested in the episode about the causeway because I am in road and bridge construction and engineering.

I heard someone say tonight, "Andrew was one of of the most destructive hurricanes on record." That is the first time I've heard that. Andrew now has the prefix "one of". Katrina has raised the bar and set the new standard.

After watching that, I really wonder how wise it is to rebuild NO, but I guess there's really no other choice, it has to be done. It sure sounds to me though like its futile, that no matter what, the same thing can easily happen again. With the city sinking, the barrier islands disappearing, they make it sound like its only a matter of time before there just won't be any land where NO is now?

The show about the Cat 5 hurricanes had false information on the infamous and false accounts of the Richielu (sp.?) apartment hurricane party.

My comment on my previous post may be interpreted incorrectly, I didn't really like the show cause it had almost nothing about Katrina, and though I don't like politics and it didn't have it, it had too much about the history of NO, the fact that it has the 4th largest port in the world, and the fact that it's sinking.

Hurricanes: started off talking about how radar is the tool that saves lives, while showing satellite pics, and ignoring planes and computer models, I turned it off.

I think we almost have to for the nations economy, at least thats the way this show portrayed it. Like Wxmann mentioned, 4th largest port in the world, huge player in fossil fuel refining and distribution, also mentioned half of our grain exports leave thru NO, just to name a few.

War planning in the age of strategic bombing has shown that centralized production, while efficient, can lead to disaster.

I really dont see the logic behind putting so much refining capacity(a vital national strategic asset) so close together on such vulnerable shores.

I dont think anything can be done about the shipping though... there needs to be a deep water port somewhere at the end of the river. Perhaps Baton Rouge can pick up some of the slack.
