South Fla. preparations
Starting a thread for preparation discussion, questions about public and official actions -- not track speculation about TD 18
Local NWS advising watching closely; storm warnings are posted in the Bahamas. Contribute if you have information about your area.
Right now, it looks like if we have to evacuate, it would be Monday. I'm concerned about flooding here only if a strong storm is passing through the Keys; we may have to secure boats but will be prepared for TS winds.
This is the annual poker run weekend in the Keys, an estimated 15,000 motorcycle enthusiasts are in Key West and heading north to the mainland tomorrow (good thing).

Haven't heard anything up here yet, but haven't watched the news yet as I'm watching football
We'll fill up the cars tomorrow, etc., but that's probably as much as we will do. I don't foresee us having to evac. because we are safe up to a Cat. 2. Will keep ya updated if I hear something new.

Hey Canelaw, I'm just south of you, Key Largo.
I see Florida up on Tenn 4th qtr. I'm watching the Higher Ground relief concert on PBS and the game.
Because this storm may threaten Key West more than the upper Keys, I expect Billy Wagner to jump on this tomorrow and maybe evacuate tourists. There isn't a lot of time on this one.
I saw one scary model, I'm checking Derek's forecast in the analysis form and the discussion thread here.
We all know to be more vigilant after Katrina.
NBC 6 local weather showed a Cat 1 cane over Key West on Monday night, but mostly said "keep an eye on it"

We weren't here for Katrina - were in Puerto Rico so we missed all that fun
I'm expecting the local officials and media to get all over this by in the morning. It'll be interesting to see where it ends up though because some models are taking it through the middle and lower Keys while some are bringing it further up this way. Either way, I'll prepare for a good party LOL No, we'll get ready, just in case, but will monitor, as usual

I'm going to get enough food and water to last until FEMA would get here, I hope I have enough room to store it all..........
Seriously, I wouldn't be evacuating, even on a Cat 5(I'm not just talking about TD 18, or saying it would be a Cat 5). I'm about 7 miles inland, 2nd floor of a high rise building built back in the 70's, solid. I have a very safe room in the place, the kitchen, which is a good 30 feet from the nearest window, with 2 walls between the nearest windows (closet wall and kitchen wall) and has a door, and the other wall is up against an enclosed hallway in the building. We'd have to seriously unlucky not to survive in there.

Seriously, I'll leave if I have time and it's strengthening, but these close ones make it hard to decide.
yeah i see your point. in the 11pm discussion, Stewart mentioned that it would be totally possible if TD18 became a strong Cat2 hurricane before impacts on south florida.

Yikes on Stewart!
Our local met (a new and weekend relief one) was quite bullish on this having an impact on the Naples/Marco Island area. She expects that by the time it is near our location (late Monday into Tuesday), it will be Hurricane Rita unless she gets sheared.
Because this station was doing the news later than the other locals after the GATORS WIN, they had more current info. (I flipped over to see what the others were saying but they were still vague) Will be anxious to see what the a.m.brings.

Tomorrow is looking like my day to gas up, top off supplies, and maybe screw down some of the shutters.
