Ed Rappaport expects hurricane at next recon flight-On CNN

#1 Postby JTD » Mon Sep 19, 2005 8:13 pm

Ed Rappaport was just on CNN now and expects hurricane at next recon flight.

He also:

1. Expects category 1 perhaps 2 at the Keys.

2. Says at least category 3 at 2nd landfall.

3. Doesn't rule out a repeat of Katrina (strength wise-not landfall wise)

Not surprised... I think anyone who knows anything about tropical cyclones can tell you it's likely a hurricane now.

Oh definitely a hurricane. Maybe a 75 kt cane too. Definitely getting its act together.

He actually said it was "very possible" it could be a hurricane, not definitely. Of course attributed it to the fact of the recent blow up in convection.

Still, I would expect one at 11. Technically though, he (representing NHC) didn't flat out say we'll have a hurricane at 11 public, though I bet many of them are thinking it privately.

Well...unless local mets got recon info already...the one that just
did a teaser for the 10pm news slipped.

He said "hurricane rita approaching the keys...tune in at 10 for details"

Recon isn't quite in the storm yet, so that's impossible, but it's obvious it's a hurricane, no need to wait for recon to tell me. The question is... HOW STRONG??

I expect Rita to do some serious bombing over the next couple of days  I'm starting to get scared for me this time.Even though I live near Dallas,I think we may pick up some heavy duty flooding rains from a cat 4 landfall over Houston.
