......... due to the upper/mid layer high over Texas that does not want to move. You can "see" it in the Atlantic water vapor loop. It's not moving east. It's just sitting there. I would expect Rita to slow down and possibly stall if that High doesn't move, since it appears that the ridge extends all the way over to Georgia. Possible WSW motion?
The models and forecasters all say that this high will erode and move east. Not sure this will happen any time soon, looking at that WV loop.
I think the slowdown everyone is talking about is.........

Here is the 24 hour WV loop. Agree apears the high is not budging over Texas, plus check out the digging trough over the Tennessee Valley.
