Some crazy evac photos. (DUW)

#1 Postby Windy » Thu Sep 22, 2005 12:57 am

Got this from another board. Here is the text description:

Overpass looking both north and south on I-45. The cars are dropping like flies. Wreckers are pulling broken down vehicles into the Walmart parking lot by the dozens. I can't imagine it is the only place its happening. You can see a couple broken down in the photos. Other shots are of the Walmart and Shell station parking lot.

Ah the big W, brings back memories of 2 recent trips to Texas: Once to Dallas to see Miami beat the Cowboys, and once to San Antonio for the NCAA Men's Final Four. I'm saving the picture just so I can scream WHATABURGER as my friend walks in tomorrow (just so happens we are going to see the Dolphins play Carolina in Miami this weekend.)

The funny thing is after he bought one he was the one asking - What? A Burger? R U Sure?

Gee, they might think about reversing the other lanes of traffic.

Ahem. Methinks next year they implement contraflow. Both sides of the freeway should be used. The intention of the Eisenhower Interstate System was so it could be used in a massive evacuation. One side jam packed so that traffic isn't moving, and the other side devoid of any traffic is not efficient.

Just spoke w/my cousin on the phone. She's currently on 290 heading towards Austin. Still in the ne part of the city and hasn't moved much in 4hrs. But I'm glad she & others are heading this warning. Surprised they aren't doing contraflow myself.

I know it is probably chaos there right now, but well worth it. Those pics give me great hope.
