I've got photos from Rita

#1 Postby crazycajuncane » Sat Sep 24, 2005 6:31 pm

This will give you all some sort of look at what's going on in Lafayette, LA

We are about 70 miles to the east of Lake Charles.

Read my blog to see how things went. I did get out to take some photos today.

The photos represent the damage and flooding we saw. Majority of the city is fine. Business remain closed today as there are still squals out there.

We did find 2 restaurants open and a few gas stations. I think there is a curfew tonight. Last night they couldn't figure out if there was going to be one or not.

Enjoy!

Nice pictures! I liked the one where the word "hurricane" was misspelled LOL.

I hope you don't think I'm hijacking your thread- just thought I'd post a couple pictures of Rita's outer cirrus bands floating over my neighborhood in Oklahoma City at sunset tonight! They were a lot more impressive in person, but cameras can never quite catch the beauty...

Thanks for the comments. Rita has been a long lasting event. We've had close to 30 hours of winds... 20-25 mph sustained with gusts to 50 - 60.

It's calming down now. Our friends in Lake Charles are not so lucky. Our friends in South Central Louisiana endured a lot of flooding as well.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. And thanks, too, Oklahoma Weather for your pictures. We have got to get a digital camera-- the sunrise Friday morning here was spectacularly orange and red! It reminded me of a phrase my Mom always says, "Red sky at morning, sailor take warning... red sky at night, lover's delight." I hate I didn't get a picture of it.
Glad y'all are safe and wish everyone a quick and safe recovery.

No problem. Vermillion Parish took a hit with the flooding! Big time storm surge.

That flooding I showed you guys is nothing compared to what is in Southern Vermillion Parish. I wasn't going to much further south.

Yes, Lafayette was spared. I believe the damage could have been a lot worst if not for Lili knocking down all the old trees 3 years ago.

The neighborhoods like Brentwood and Broadmoor have more damage, because of all the trees.

Cameron parish looks horrible!
