Houston / Rita Poll
For all you Houstonians out there, who boarded up their house for Hurricane Rita? I just want an estimate, as my family decided not to. Thanks!

- Location: Galveston, oh Galveston (And yeah, it's a barrier island. Wanna make something of it?)
We saw some homes boarded up all the way north of Conroe. Can't tell you exactly how many or where because we were on back roads, side roads, and dirt roads.
What's amazing is the number of homes boarded up here on the island. It was surreal coming back on Monday and seeing all the boards everywhere -- wood boards, shutters, aluminunum, etc. on homes, stores, museums, hospitals (Shriners Burn Center had boards on a number of patient care floors). And so many homes are still boarded up. Everything that's usually outside the home is gone, moved inside. No plants, grills, trash cans, patio furniture, wind chimes. It makes the homes look abandoned which, of course, they are. But we can't help wonder -- when are they coming home?
