Forgot to mention, notice the remains of that metal building.
A waterline can be seen at the peak of that roof, from the inside, with seaweed and grass stuck in the rafters. Gives you an idea of the surge. And, this place was behind levee "protection".
Also, the direction of the wind is indicated by the telephone pole in that last picture.
Lastly, the dark appearance to the ground isn't only a result of dead/gone grass. That is mostly crude oil from busted tanks in the area. Every step leaves a pool of oil squishing up through the soil.
