Organizers Say Teens' Nudist Summer Camp Is Innocent Fun





(AP) - Some Virginia officials are fretting over a different kind of youth summer camp that opened Saturday on 45 acres in Southampton County.

At Camp White Tail, teenagers will do the normal activities--swim, play volleyball, do arts and crafts, as well as some unusual ones, like splattering their fellow campers' bodies with pudding.

The catch is, it's all done in the nude.

The youth camp is the third such one in the country, but White Tail has been a nudist camp since 1984. The camp's managers say being in the buff is no biggie for most of the 30 kids who have signed up - many of them were raised in nudist families. And Bob Roche says the camp carefully screens any adults who work there.

But a spokesman for state Attorney General Jerry Kilgore says officials are "very concerned" about the week-long summer program. Tim Murtaugh called it an invitation to pedophiles.

The camp attracts an average of 1,200 people at any given time, including 30 families who live there year-round. The other youth camps are near Tampa, Florida, and in Arizona.
