Will the eye strike Mexico?
This might be an obvious question as I'm a noob, but I'm kinda getting concerned for Mexico. How many people live in the Cancun area. Have evacuations begun? Will the eye strike Mexico?

If in doubt, go to Wikipedia.

This is old info, I would be VERY surprised if there weren't evacuations underway already. 12 hours later it will be too late.
Quintana Roo government officials declared a red alert on the evening of Wednesday, October 19. Classes have been suspended in the state's northern municipalities and residents of coastal areas have been advised to take refuge further inland; tourists in the resort city of Cancún and its adjacent islands have been told to return to their places of origin or head inland. In neighboring Yucatán, classes have also been suspended in 18 coastal municipalities and preparations are underway for a possible evacuation of threatened areas. [4]

Half a million.

They'd better have - it's way too late now.

Million dollar question, which no one has an error-proof answer to, but I think it will.

I think Cancun and Cozumel will both get hit about the same. Cancun may see slightly lower winds than Cozumel, but could possibly never see the eye and be in hurricane conditions longer than Cozumel since there is a good possibility the eye will pass West of Cancun.

Cozumel is going to hit hardest by surge since the waters between the island and the mainland is shallower, and the major resorts are on the west side of the island. However, Cancun is getting the brunt of the winds right now since it is in that infamous right-front quadrant.
