My heart breaks for this baby......wait until you read the very last sentence. OMG, what is wrong with people and why didn't her friends call Child Protective Services?

Baby Left Alone For Three Weeks, Mother Arrested

A seven-month-old baby is in the hospital after his young mother apparently left him alone in a Covington apartment for three weeks.

Police say when they got to the boy, Marcus, he was "nearly lifeless and alone" in a messy apartment at the Cambridge Square complex off Taylor Mill Road.

Antonio Farmer found the boy first.

"His face was sunken in really bad. The doctor said [the boy] hadn't eaten in three weeks. You could see his bones, his organs. He must have had that same diaper on for all that time," Farmer told 9News.

Marcus was taken to Children's Hospital where he was listed in fair condition Friday evening, suffering from severe malnourishment.

The boy's mom, Ashley Traylor, 20, was arrested Wednesday night. Police say she showed no emotion when told about her little boy.

She had been spending time at a friend's apartment in a separate complex. That friend, Jamie Little, says Traylor told her Marcus was with a babysitter.

Traylor is facing charges of felony criminal abuse.

Her friends say it was common for Traylor to leave Marcus when she went to nightclubs. She would even comment that she wanted him to die, friends told 9News.

Marcus was found with a blanket tied around his neck, in a dirty apartment that "had garbage all over the place," Channel 9's Lance Barry reported.

Traylor's friends told 9News she has another child, a three-year-old who's in foster care.

The suspect is also pregnant again, 9News learned

Now this a case where that woman need her female organs removed. This is just so sad!

My parents were telling me about another abuse case where this woman threw all 3 of her kids off a pier into the ocean because she said she was going to feed them to the sharks. Like a 6 year old, one under 1 year, and a middle child in between. I should find the story and read it for myself. She was skitzophranic(spell?). This people seem to shock me everyday. I just don't get it. Why are these kids in these peoples care. Seems like there are red flags all over the place before these horrible things happen, and just nobody says or does anything about it, which is just as sad. :(

I hope this boy makes a full recovery.

This story and that one you mentioned OTown...Sad...incomprehensible... (wait, stepping up on my soapbox...) Why can't people think before they act (or in this case, don't act)? I mean, here there are so many people who would have gladly adopted this baby and if she decided that she was too busy partying to care for another person's life, hellloooo.....adoption.
I hope they put her into mandatory counseling to figure out what causes her to have zero empathy before the next baby is exposed to her never ending supply of  motherly love. :x Same goes for this other woman - she should have had someone in her life that realized her situation and helped her in some way or urged her to consider adoption. Give these poor kids a fighting chance. ( stepping back down) I hope this little boy makes a full recovery and ends up in a loving home.

There's another article in today's paper about this tragic story but I can't find a link for it. This woman's friends did turn her in, they grew worried the baby was being well cared for. So in the end, they did the right thing. The article above implies they ignored warnings about the baby. So I wanted to clear that up.

I hope they do take her next baby immediately after birth, don't even give her the option to see/hold that baby. And if possible, do an immediate hysterectomy on her. But this is the US, not China. Dang it.

What a sad, sad story. To think there are people who want newborns to adopt so badly too.

She's probably too sick to think about adoptions and hysterectomies.
It's evident that someone needs to think FOR her.

Her demeanor seems to indicate a total indifference to responsibility, the lives of her children, etc...whatever gets in the way of getting her OWN way.

In sum, I see a classic sociopath of the worst order.

As to the baby in utero, I believe a claim should be made for adoption immediately after delivery.

She needs to learn to keep her legs closed! Excuse my talk. But, if you are going to lie down and sleep with a man, then you need to take responsibility for your actions! Use birth control! I know birth control is not 100% except abstinence. But, if she did not want the babies, then why not give them to a loving family that does? Some people can't pregnant at all yet would make great parents. And then there are parents like her........ I hope she gets what she deserves.

It's too bad about this whole thing. She doesn't sound like she was in her right mind. From past experience, I remember that a person over the age of 21 had to volutarily be admitted to any in-house psychological rehab, which seems kind of strange considerng they may not be thinking clearly to begin with. It's a catch 22. While it is upsetting, thank you for pointing out that the baby wasn't the only victim in this and that the friends did the right thing in the end.

Very good point, I totally agree. That is why she has not taken any responsibility to do the right thing. Her head is probably clouded. Someone defiantley needs to think for her. It is obvious she has no one to help her. No decent family around her. Maybe she was raised in the same manor, scary thought.

Sad, sad story. That poor innocent child. How unfortunate in todays world that something like that is still able to happen. I would believe that her economic status and mental health are severly lacking.

The story of the 3 children happened in the San Francisco area. Here's the thread on it

What I don't understand is how a 7-month old baby survive for 3 weeks without any food or liquids? An adult can't even survive that long without liquids much less a 7-month old baby! There is something fishy about story. Maybe she dumped the baby on somebody and then they left the baby several days ago or something. I could see surviving maybe a week at most but not 3 whole weeks!

An update....

http://www.cincynow.com/news/2005/local/10/23/baby.html

People Reach Out To Abandoned Baby

A malnourished baby that Covington police say was left to die remains in fair condition at Childrens Hospital Medical Center.

His story of survival is touching people far beyond the Tri-state.

The mother of seven-month-old Marcus Traylor is facing felony abuse charges after police say she left her son in their apartment perhaps as long as 19 days without food or care.

A hospital spokesperson says while his condition has not improved, it is not thought to be life-threatening.

Since the story appeared on 9News/ WCPO.com, people from all over the country have e-mailed 9News to ask what they can do.

9News has learned that the hospital is accepting gifts like teddy bears for Marcus in his name.

Authorities say the baby will probably enter foster care when he recovers.

Those who are unwilling to take responsibility for children shouldn't have children.
