I flipped on NBC this morning and saw Al Roker being blown over. He had a guy laying at his feet holding him, and then blew over and crawled back into the hotel (or where ever he was). Katie and Matt were joking with him "Bet you wish you had not lost all that weight." They did make a comment about nobody wanting their jobs now, but then quickly moved onto the next story.

I never through I would agree with Jeb Bush, but I have to say that this little clip did look a little too fun for me, and it does worry me that sights like this one will make others think that hurricanes are fun to play with. Hey, it is like a big wind tunnel, lets go out and play! As much as we want to see the storm, see the wind, and all that, I think it would almost be better to have someone reporting from a shelter (it was too bad outside, so we are now inside this shelter, but we do have our remote (unmaned) camera outside to show you what is happening.

I agree with you completely. It infuriates me to see them do this. Don't they realize they are setting a bad example for children. I don't understand in this day and age why they can't put up cameras and stay safe. I would much prefer to hear what the people in the shelters have to say, than watch a piece of awning roll down the street. I also remember going through storms and the whole thing was handled by a great met in the studio. There is plenty of time to get shots after the storm has passed.

I think that Jeb Bush has done an AWESOME job these last two years for Florida, and has been a model for oher Governor's in how to deal with emergencies. Same with Haley Barbour of MS. Now, LA on the other hand .. :rolleyes:

I had the pleasure of working with several south Florida State Troopers
in the aftermath of Katrina - Jeb Bush offered them, and Haley Barbour accepted his offer.

They were a great bunch of folks to work with and visit. We talked
preperation, and the fact that Florida has really done a great job in
getting ready for hurricanes in the last year. Having them tell me
that "Katrina was much worse than Andrew" resonated havily with me.

I'm unfortunately waiting for the day that one of these reporters get struck by something hurling by them at 75+mph and seriously injuring or possibly killing them.

Covering the story is one thing, being a statistic is another thing altogether.

I actually thought that one of them down in Cancun would be the first to die in a storm. As "fun" as it is to see a dude who can't stand up all the while pieces of homes are flying at him, I just don't really think it's necessary any more!
