Power out in 95% of the city, tree down everywhere, most everything of the aluminium variety(screen enclosures, modular buildings, sheds, etc) was damaged or destroyed. Boca Raton airport trashed and up to 10 million dollars in small aircraft destroyed. Most of the main roads cleared of debris. You're basic nightmare.

No word from my friends at 441 North of Lox on the west side of Boca. Any chance of phone lines being up there?

I just got my power back today Thurs. It looks like a war zone with all the trees down. No damage to my house but I was scared. The eye looked like a donut. One minute to react to winds going from calm to 85mph + and the back west end of Wilma was worse. That storm had some real vigor to keep it clean if you know what I mean. I've seen alot of tarps on roofs. They were saying on the radio power restoration Nov 22nd I got mine back Oct 26th.

Delray Beach (just to the north of Boca) didn't do so well. We finally got out of our neighborhood on Wednesday and many of the power poles are snapped. Trees are down everywhere and they are saying that we won't get out power back until Nov 22nd (at the latest). Our roof is damaged (whose isn't, it seems) and a gas station finally opened up yesterday near the Delray Medical Center. I'm back to work today (waited for 5 1/2 hours for gas), but we are still on generator power here in Plantation.

I feel like I'm in a bit of shock. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. Frances was just a little warm up for this. That was truly the scariest thing I've ever been through. I'm saddened by how many people failed to take it seriously. I'm a weather weenie, so I prepared for the worst, but I've learned still more lessons from this. (we need more gas cans for the generator. Plywood is not really sufficient covering for the windows) Even if we have to get one window a month done, we are getting steel hurricane shutters before next year. One of the plywood (this is 5/8 inch plywood) shutters over my daughter's room cracked from the force of a tree branch hitting it.

The shingles on most of the houses in my neighborhood are scrubbed clean down to the tar paper. We were actually a bit luckier than many. We didn't sustain any long term damage and there's nothing wrong with our house that a tarp can't cover (for now). Our neighbor had a tree branch stick thorough their roof. The neighbor on the other side had to retrieve his pool enclosure for the side of our house. Couple doors down, the roof fell in on the living room (luckily no one was hurt).

Anyway, I should get back to work. This will take a while to recover from.
