I'm back and survived Wilma

My power came up at 1:30pm. I'm ok and our property is fine.150ft Ficus trees along my property fell the other way so I lucked out. I'm glad to be back.

I have a questioin for you boca. Im just curious, how long was power out for you in Boca Raton last year after Frances?

I'm not boca, but i live in east boca raton and my power still has yet to be restored. i'm running on a generator my friend from tampa drove down to me. and about frances, i was without power for 4 days and so far this has been 4. it's pretty annoying not having power, but the biggest problem is my roof damage. also, all my trees except two either uprooted or snapped in half (and that's about seven) so it's a lot of cleanup. the streets were virtually impossible to navigate after it hit on sunday with powerlines and trees all in the streets. now the problem is the nonexistence of traffic lights, they aren't even there anymore. a four-story marina by my house collapsed into the water along with all of the boats. it's too bad.

First of all I'm glad to be back.In Frances I was without power for 5 days.FPL did not restore my power it was an out of state power company. I was without power in Wilma for 3 days.WeatherEmperor this was alot worse than Frances because I experienced the eye and I was really afraid of losing my roof or a blown in window.I had 50 year old Ficus trees 150 ft high blow down the other way towards the development next to me, if these trees blew the other way I wouldn't be here talking to you. Experienceing the eye really looks like a circular donut it was very still.The wind picked up really quickly in a matter of 1 minute the winds went from 0 to 5 mph to 85 to 113 mph which I read in the Palm Beach Post was the highest wind speed. seeing a hurricane firdt hand is a rush but I don't want to experience helplessness praying I don't get killed over this ever again.

so glad your powers back!!! i really think we are on the ball here (in florida) to getting electricity back to people........ALOT FASTER THAN OTHER STATES!!!

I'm checking in from Homestead. Still no power or phone. House and roof held up well though some of my neighbors will need roofs. Most trees either down or broken half way. The tallest ones suffered the most. Our 400sf greenhouse is gone, supports and all.
Overall, worse than Katrina wind wise but basically no rain. Drained the pool a few inches in preparation and then had to add water on Monday afternoon. Compared to Andrew, this was a walk in the park.
The generator life was wearing thin so I headed to Tampa with the children for some normalcy and until power is restored. We homeschool so our school is portable and we can stay as long as we need too. My husband is back at work and holding down the fort with all the animals. Due to the lack of power, gas is hard to find so he siphons from the car to run the generator for a few hours at night.
Overall, Homestead did well but then we are probably one of the most prepared communities around.

Hi Canelaw 99,
We are near SW 167th Ave and SW 280th St. SW 272nd St had loads of power poles down across the street much of the the way from Krome to US1. I think our power must come in from that direction. We play tennis at Keys Gate and I was glad to hear that area is on and the courts were not too badly damaged.
Hope you did not suffer too much. I think this whole storm just raises the hassle factor for everyone. By the way I'm a 'Cane too but a whole 10 years before you!

I just got back online. They have been very, very slow to restore power this time around....even though the damage in my area was really not that severe.

Wilma was one tough storm, though. She was a beauty. Also....very, very strange to experience such cool temps in the aftermath of a hurricane. I've never experienced that before, in all my 31 years. LOL
