"Sittin' round the Pot Belly Stove!"

#1 Postby azsnowman » Tue Nov 01, 2005 7:33 am

Hello weather buddies! In keeping with tradition, it's time to fire up the "Pot Belly Stove!" The pot belly stove is a place to sit, put up your feet, share your days events and enjoy the glow of true weather buddy friendship. So, pull up a chair, put up your feet and warm up!

Wow Dennis. I can't believe it is Pot Belly Stove time already. This place brings back so many memories. Now, if you don't mind, I am going to pull the rocking chair up next to the stove and zzzzzz....

Let me be one of the first few Stovians.....is that a word? LOL

Thanks for starting this thread Dennis.....never knew you such a stickler for tradition before!!! Have you started your caramel popcorn yet?

In case any of our S2K newer members want to check out past PBS topics, here are 2 I found:

2003-04
http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic ... 82&start=0

2004-05
http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic ... 60&start=0

Not that anyone is going to read every single page of past topics, IF you do I hearby give you an A+, but old topics are always fun to skim thru.

WOW, the return of the PBS!!!!! I cannot believe how fast this year has gone! Yes we are still trying to get back into the house that Ivan destroyed. Our goal is to be back in by Christmas!! Installing bamboo flooring right now and marble. Very tedious but well worth it. I am happy to be almost done with this years season and after getting hit by 3 of the first 4 storms this year, I thought we were doomed. Luckily (for us anyway) we were spared major damage but did suffer some. As a cane enthusiast all of my life, I sure am not looking forward to the 2006 season. I am happy to just be warming my feet by the fire of the PBS and chatting with old friends that I have missed bunches!! LOVE TO ALL OF YOU!!

Well, with the Hurricane season hopefully winding down(do you hear that mother nature?)I will be able to find some time to sit by the fire and warm myself along with my wxbuddies. With our temps finally getting to normal or a little below here in Houston, the warmth of the stove felt good as I rolled out of bed this morning. Thanks Dennis.

I guess I'm gonna have to wait till later to curl up in granny's afgan or I wouldn't get any work done today.

Laters all!!

Ahhh...I can almost smell the wood burning in the stove, and feel the warmth from all the lovely friends stopping by to rest awhile...Dennis, what would winters be like w/o an invite to sit by the stove...

Comes at a great time as we are "shopping" for a cabin up at Big bear to buy...we want a snowy getaway home...close to the slopes where the kids are all winter, with a cozy lil fireplace to warm our toes by....so, as we're running up and down the mountain meeting with our realtor, viewing properties, we're still waiting for the first significant snowfall...

I've got plenty of hot cocoa and leftover chicken salad sandwiches leftover from the kids friends being over for teenages trick or treating lastnight...I'll leave them out...grab a mug of cocoa and a sandwich to snack on as you sit and rest and while...

Its that time of year again..... time for warm Apple Cider, granny's afghan and our fireside chats.

Today was the first crisp morning in a long time... temperatures actually felt cold when I got up this morning (I have to walk to the cadillac (ie bathroom))...it was a little chilly. This afternoon the oven turned to 300* rather quickly. I'm almost at 2 months here in the desert...only 2 more to go! Yes, this desert deployment has gone by fast. I wish I could turn the mosquitos off though... goodness, my legs look like I have chicken pox (it doesn't help that I itch the bite spots... I'm trying not too!) Here in Qatar life is rather relaxed... no chem gear, no mortars, no bombs. We have the 'resort' base of the AF... Bahrain is the resort base for the Navy. Regardless of the location, its still a learning experience. For one, I'm in a foreign country. Second, I have learned not to take life forgranted... I know now a new meaning of our stateside amenities (ie our cars, our cushion life)

I'll throw a log on the fire for everyone experiencing fall-like temperatures.

Thanks Dennis. I love the front porch but I have such great memories and have made so many good friends here at the Pot Belly Stove. Dennis, I remember the first year you started it right after 911. We all felt a little safer and warmer around the stove.

Shannon, I'm so glad you remembered Granny's afghan. It's great to have around when someone needs that extra bit of warmth. Since you are so far from home I think you should keep it in your custody until someone needs it.

Well, I'll brew a pot of Earl Grey, have one of Furry's chicken salad sandwiches (my favorite - Thanks Furry) and leave this box of KK's here on the mantle. Remember, the chocolate covered one is for David.

Have a great day everyone.

Karan, thanks but no thanks... I'd be baking in the oven if I had the afghan!

I'll pass it to someone experiencing temps below 40*F

Ahhh but the afghan is not for body warmth, it's for that warm, cozy and fuzzy feeling you get when you feel loved and safe.

Well, look who the cat dragged in - Sandi! So glad to see a few posts from you!!! Glad you'll be done with your remodeling soon. Thought of you each time a major hurricane was about to strike. I imagine each one brought all your feelings after losing your home last year, to the surface. But think how far you've come in a year!
