Zero casualties in Central America from Hurricane Beta

#1 Postby gilbert88 » Thu Nov 03, 2005 3:41 pm

Wow... that's what I call a dodged bullet. The four persons that were reported missing have been found alive on their boat after being swept out into the Caribbean sea and running out of gas.

After all the gloom surrounding this storm, I must say Nicaragua fared extremely well. I hope they get to rebuild the destroyed villages soon. :woo:

Yes, very lucky there were no fatalities, considering how deadly these storms can be.

Everyone has learned a lot from this hurricane season and governments want to avoid Mitches and Katrinas at all cost. That's why they prepared themselves for the storm and prepared the population.

Yea, especially in those areas. Good Luck and God Bless to those people. Hopefully they'll get their lives back soon.

Phew! Excellent news...plus I'm sure the hurricane folks were wondering: what will we do if we had to retire Beta?

Is this a result of pure luck, or better emergency planning on the part of the Nicuraguan government? If it is better planning, then we can say there was a silver lining to Hurricane Mitch, which forced Central American governments to make sure they had plans so that they could do everything they can to precaution against the next one, and then Hurricane Stan, whose legacy probably got alot of people evacuated from the mountains before Beta struck. Not that those storms weren't horrible, but thanks to them we seem to have saved many lives during Hurricane Beta.

I just wish Haiti would take a hint...

Unfortunately, until Haiti is able to get a somewhat stable government, tragic situations like Jeanne will keep happening over and over again.

It's like one Haitian official said during preparations for Dennis: "There's really not much we can do."
